Breaking records at Highpoint

The completion of the first floor at Highpoint has achieved a GWH record for a single concrete slab. Not only did the concrete pour exceed ground floor, it did so by 110m3. In total it’s 442m3 of concrete, 36 tonne of reinforcing steel, plus the 9 tonne of post tension cable, the floor came to an approx. 1,080 tonne of material.

The pour for the first floor slab was completed on Friday 22nd March, just in time for our first Highpoint purchasers breakfast event in which all purchasers were invited to attend site and check-out the progress first hand.

Following the pour the site team was back into prep for the second floor and we saw installation of the double storey columns and walls. Hunter Install installed the 40 precast concrete columns and panels in just over two days.

The rate and level of execution the GWH Highpoint team achieves can significantly be attributed to the unique set of capabilities we have thanks to our vertically integrated partnerships with the companies that make up the Hunter Group of Companies.

On site at Highpoint during March, almost every day saw the Hunter Group of Companies a part of the job. Hunter Install completes the installation of the precast panels and columns from Hunter Precast and the prefabricated steel from Hunter Structural Steel, which give our buildings structure and strength. Hunter Readymixed Concrete is supplying the concrete that forms every structural floor. The 442m3 of concrete for first floor arrived to site in 61 trucks, from two local depots (Gateshead & Thornton) with the team moving through an average of 1 truck every 10 minutes to complete the pour.

Through our vertically integrated group the delivery timelines are streamlined; the ability to control supply offers the benefit of timing and quality control.

The final week of March was a week of formwork install, preparing the deck for steel fixers to install reo all on top of a mix of trades installing in slab services for the second floor pour expected to take place early April.

Once this has taken place prep works will begin for level 3 suspended slab. After we complete level 3, the schedule is set for a structural floor to be completed every 7 days.
